If you’re pursuing a career as an online marketer then you’ve most likely heard the term ‘PLR’ from everyone and their grand mother.

Private Label Rights content has been elevated to a virtual pedestal and it’s being sold as the magic cure for all your marketing woes – from enabling you to stuff your blog with fantastic content, to give you the rights to ‘slap your name’ on a product and sell it as your own within minutes, or even the ease of becoming a PLR vendor yourself.

Whilst PLR can be highly beneficial if used correctly and may live up to all of the hype, the market is also flooded with subpar PLR material.

There are 2 reasons for this:

1. Because of the low entry barriers anyone can become a PLR Vendor
2. The vast majority of marketers step into the PLR market just for the money.

These marketers don’t care about quality since the industry is filled with naïve beginners who don’t know any better and buy their stuff no matter what.

But this blog post is not about repurposing PLR, the quality standards of the vendors or the people who purchase PLR content. This post is all about you and your intentions to become a PLR vendor.

It’s about you and your willingness to produce PLR that is devoured by an audience eager for engaging content…and who will gladly pay for it. And if you’re good at what you do, they will.

1.Do you know what quality looks like?

Most newcomers enter the PLR industry expecting to make big bucks. Understandable… and entirely acceptable if you’re doing it for money. Passion is often overrated. That being said, even if you’re in it for the money, you must still deliver quality.

A lot of naive PLR vendors crank out substandard and awful cookie cutter content. Their reckless efforts to profit as much as possible in as little time as possible derails their long-term success.

While they may start off strong, eventually buyers will avoid them, and they never gain momentum due to a lack of returning customers.

One must fully grasp what high quality content looks and reads like. This business model requires some expertise.

A common problem that many PLR sellers face is that they outsource their content to third-rate writers in order to reduce costs and increase profit margins.

Most of the time, these inexperienced writers are glad they got the job and quickly throw together a bunch of random phrases, believing they’ve published the next War and Peace.

Or even worse, they just plagiarize and rip off content from other sites and deliver it as their own work.

The ignorant PLR vendor who has no idea what good material looks like believes that his writer has produced Pulitzer-prize worthy content.

2.Will you hire a ghost writer or do you write the content yourself?

If you have outstanding writing skills, that’s excellent news because in that case this business model has your name all over it. However, don’t misjudge your capabilities.

Although everyone can write, not all of us can write well. To be successful in this industry, you must not only write well, but also write quickly. Speed is also crucial.

If it takes you 3 days to write just one article, you’re better off hiring someone else.

If you don’t like doing research, if you hate to write about things that bore you… if you… you get the point. Hire someone else to write for you.

You’ll need enough money to recruit a qualified writer if you’re hiring one – and in general, you can expect to spend more for a writer who understands what they’re doing. .

You (and your wallet) will take a hit, but you may ease that sorrow by understanding that you are not paying for content. You’re paying to establish yourself as a skilled PLR vendor!

In the eyes of your consumers, your work will define your worth. See, don’t you feel better already?

Because you’ll be investing on content creation, your marketing must be on point. That is the only way you will be able to cover your costs and make a decent profit. So be aware of that too.

3.Will you go niche specific or go broad?

Some PLR vendors only produce material for a specific niche. Self-help, health, and online marketing are just a few examples. They specialize on one niche and delve deeply into it.

Then there are other PLR vendors who will tackle any niche, if it seems profitable. There are pros and cons to both approaches.

Customers will be more targeted if you just sell PLR in one topic. With time, you’ll know all the ins and outs of that market and be able to develop content that your clients crave for.

This will lead to more conversions and sales. Also, it is far easier to write about the same subjects again and again, rather than constantly exploring new niches.

If you go wide, you’ll have more flexibility and you will be able to capitalize on new trends and develop content for them. You’ll be catering to the demand in many niches and you might see a surge in sales. It takes more time and effort, but your eggs are not all in one basket.

Which way you go is up to you. Both are profitable, if done right.

4.How good is your networking?

If you’re just getting started, recruiting affiliates is the best approach to boost your sales, but your social skills will need to be relatively good here.

Get to know and become friends with other PLR vendors. Find them on social media and engage with them ahead of time. Plant your seeds before bringing your needs.

Many beginners and even more experienced marketers have extremely low EQ levels. They disappear for months and then suddenly reemerge when they have an upcoming launch. They become overly friendly and try to get other marketers to promote them.

This selfish mentality is so obvious and is a turn-off for most other marketers. You will mostly be ignored or rejected.

One hand washes the other… and in the beginning, if you have nothing to offer, just offer your support (by buying from them) or your friendship.

5.Do you have a marketing plan?

Before you become a PLR vendor, you should determine what skills you’ll need, what tools you’ll need, and how you want to establish your business.

It makes no difference if you’re producing written content, images, videos, or anything else. To do a good job, you need skills… which implies working on yourself.

You must also learn how to design a sales page, write sales copy, build a sales funnel, add buyers to a list, email market to them, and so on. This industry has a lot of moving parts.

You’ll have to study them all… slowly but steadily.

You should also do a few PLR launches to build momentum and grow your buyers list. Once you’ve gained enough traction, you may consider creating a PLR store to generate passive sales. Then it’s only a matter of scaling up traffic to increase your profits.

Rinse. Lather. Repeat. That’s all there is to it.

• How stiff is the competition in your chosen niche? Competition is good, this usually means that you entered a profitable niche. But keep in mind that you don’t want to enter a niche which is overly saturated.

Quality of your product

• Only go for products that come with extra materials, such as a cheat sheet, a mind map or a different set of graphics.
• Make sure that all the marketing materials are included in your package. Your package should have a lead magnet, an opt-in page, a thank you page, a sales page and a download page.
• Before you start the rebranding process always go through your product. Make sure that the content is well written or that the videos are of high quality. Always look for unique topics in your content and enlarge those topics as this will be a selling point for potential customers.

Only buy PLR products, NOT MRR or RR

• Don’t go for MRR (Master Resell Rights) or RR (Resell Rights) as they do not allow you to rebrand your product and make it unique. They only allow you to sell the product as it is.
• Only buy PLR products as this gives you the right to do a complete makeover of the product.

STEP 2: Edit The Product And Make It Truly Yours

The cover

• Always change the cover of your product, you can edit the original file that came with it in Photoshop or use a free tool called Gimp.
• Even better is to create a completely new cover and/or create new graphics for your product. Your goal is to change the complete outlook of your sales page.

An easy way to create a new cover and graphics is by using the free online tools Canva.com and SmartMockups.com.

Change your product name

• Give your product a completely new name but make sure it’s still relevant with your products content.
• Change the wording of your subtitle’s or write a completely new subtitle.
• Don’t forget to change the author name to your name

The content

• You could rewrite the content in your own words if you wish to. If the original content is well written, I personally leave it as it is. What you might want to do is ad some extra paragraphs to create more value and put in your personal touch. You’ll be able to do this with Microsoft Word or if you don’t want to pay, with Open Office.
• Don’t forget to ad in extra affiliate links, this will help you to make more money. But be moderate here, you don’t want your report to turn into an “affiliate link galore”

If you’re an absolute disaster in graphic’s design and writing, you could hire someone to do it for you through a site like Fiverr or Upwork.

STEP 3: Getting Your Pages Up And Running

You will need to set up a website/page from where you can start selling your product. You might already have a website, so some of the next steps won’t be relevant to you. For everyone else, the following will be absolutely required…

Web Hosting

Web hosting means somewhere for you to store the files that make up your website online. There are literally hundred of web hosting providers to be found if you perform a simple Google search. A good place to compare different providers is Hostadvice.com. I’m using Hostinger for the last couple of years and never had any issues with them.

Domain Name

As well as the space to store your files, you’ll also need a domain name, which is the address that people will type into the URL bar when they want to find you or your products. You can usually get this through your hosting provider. If not, you will need to buy a domain name at domain registrars such as Namecheap.

HTML Editor

This will allow you to make any changes that you desire on the original pages. You can download either Kompozer or NVU. Both are similar WYSIWYG HTML editors and they are completely free to use.

FTP software

To help with transferring files, you will need an FTP software like FileZilla. This will allow you to upload files to your hosting account without having to do so through your browser.

Payment Processor

You also need a payment processor, which will allow you to create your own ‘buy now’ button. This is very important, if you don’t replace the buy now button, then you may just be making money for the person that sold you the product. The most commonly used payment processors are Paypal and Stripe

Auto-responder

This is a piece of software that you use to build mailing lists. This allows you to collect the emails of people who think they might be interested in buying your products and then to send them messages to encourage them to come back and buy. It lets you build trust and establish yourself as an authority. I highly recommend Getresponse as it comes with all the features you’ll ever need as an internet marketer.

STEP 4: Start Promoting Your New Product

Now that you have everything in place it’s time to start promoting your product and make some sales.

• You want to start promoting on all the different social media platforms. If you’ve not yet created accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest I recommend you that as soon as possible. Build yourself an audience in your niche and promote your products without being to salesy.
• Promote on your own website or blog if you already have an audience.
• If you have an email list with loyal subscribers then you surely want to let them know that you created a new product.
• You might want to consider sending paid traffic to your product. Use Bing Ads, Google Ads, Facebook Ads or Solo Ads to get your sales going.
• Consider setting up and affiliate program, nothing to stop you offering commissions for your product.

STEP 5: Re-use and monetize your content in multiple ways

• Create slides and read out the content in order to create a video. This can easily be done in Power Point or Google Slides.
• Break down your content into smaller chapters and use them as blog posts.
• Publish the book in a physical format through Amazon Self-Publishing.
• Break chapters down into individual ‘lessons’ that can be part of an online course.
• Break down your content and use it as engaging social media posts.
• Use it as a lead magnet and build an email list.
• …and so much more, the possibilities are endless
